Chestnut Mare, foaled 1869-1889

Bred by: Ibn Rodan of the Roala tribe

Strain: Kehilan Ajuz of Ibn Rodan

Stood: 14.2 hands

Registration: GSB #13

Rodania's early life consisted of intrigue and tribal disputes. She was taken in war from Sotamm Ibn Shaalan by Tais Ibn Sharban of the Gomussa tribe.  She was purchased by Wilfred and Lady Anne Blunt in 1881 and exported immediately to Crabbet that same year.

She was the most influential foundation broodmare used at Crabbet and is widely acknowledged as having the most extensively branched family in the Arabian horse breed.  In addition to her dominance in England, Australia and the USA, her female line is most numerous in modern Egyptian breeding and also well represented in Russia and Poland.

Reportedly quite temperamental and difficult to handle, she produced three daughters to continue her line.  She died in 1889.
